Our Testing Process

We want you to be extremely satisfied with any foot massager you buy. We have read some horror stories of cheap foot massagers that broke down after 3 months of use. That's why we put every foot massager we recommended through a rigorous testing process to see if it would last.

How did we perform our test?

 

The first test we performed was a field test. We placed each foot massager in a doctor’s office lobby for 1 year. Any visitor who came into the physician’s office could use the foot massager completely FREE. After using the foot massager, visitors filled out a questionnaire asking what features they would improve and if they saw it for sale, would they like one for their home? We recorded any complaints customers had and submitted them to each company for feedback.

 

We started with 78 different foot massagers and narrowed down our picks to 5 wonderful foot massagers. Most of the devices we tested broke down after a few months of use. These were some common reasons why the devices broke down:

 

  • Bad Remote - This was the most common problem. While not every model used a wireless remote, more often than not, if a foot massager did use one, the remote would fail after about 4 months of use. On some remotes, some of the buttons wouldn’t even work.


  • Power Supply - Some of the foot massagers we tested lost their power after 6 months of use. The device’s rollers would stop moving and in some cases would turn off completely.


  • Air Cell or Roller Malfunction -   Some features on the foot massager would stop working altogether, like the air cells that were supposed to be compressing the calves or the rollers that were designed to scrape the soles of your feet. Sometimes the control system would even stop working for no reason.

    These were just a few of the problems that we we experienced. Now remember, we put these foot massagers through some heavy use. In some cases, 10 to 30 people used each foot massager every day. Some were 15-year-old teens; others were adults who were over 300 pounds. We tried simulating what it would be like to have the foot massager for 5 years because we didn’t want to recommend a foot massager that would break down easily.

    Some companies refused to even answer our calls at all.

    Most of the foot massagers we tested failed our criteria, but instead of being negative and writing down all the foot massagers that didn’t make the cut, we decided to list the devices that did.

    In order to get on our list, each foot massager had to surpass our criteria without any issues. If they did have problems, we called the company to fix the foot massager within a week. Some devices suffered broken parts but were fixed within a week. In all of our studies, the best foot massagers we found was Medical Breakthrough’s Podiatrist. Because this foot massager was made for commercial use, it was extremely tough and durable - and able to handle multiple uses each day. Of all the devices we tested, this foot massager was the best.

    Although the testing process was extremely time consuming, we thought it was necessary to help our readers avoid buying poorly-made foot massagers. Our reputation is very important to us, so before we recommend any foot massagers, we want to make sure we are testing them as fully as possible.

  • For the same reasons that a foot massage is relaxing, it can also soothe anxiety and depression. Foot massages reduce levels of the stress hormone called cortisol, resulting in lifted spirits and often lower blood pressure. It can also boost the neurotransmitters called serotonin and dopamine, which are involved in depression.

  • Because of many of the benefits listed above, foot massages are particularly helpful for people who are living with severe symptoms of anxiety. Various studies have shown that foot massages can relieve fatigue, pain, anxiety, depression, and nausea in people who are suffering from stress.
